Neighborhood Spotlight | Volume 2

Neighborhood Spotlight | Volume 2

Welcome back to the neighborhood spotlight! If you missed my last featured city, you can check it out here, but for those of you who are ready for what’s next,

let’s move on to our next neighborhood. Drumroll please…Woodstock, GA!

In search to find a place to call home, my husband and I uncovered what is now known as “the city unexpected”. I couldn’t have said it better myself. It’s recent growth has taken many people by surprise and the thought of being able to live in an up & coming city within Cherokee County taxes just puts a little icing on the cake. You’re right through the woods from Roswell/Milton and just north of East Cobb but can still get a little more bang for your buck (for now) when it comes to the housing market.

Downtown Woodstock has such an open and welcoming feel and there is always something to do! Although some of these are seasonal, here are a few examples of what you can expect: Woodstock Roots (a bluegrass music series) every Thursday, Friday Night Live on the first Friday of every month, Food Truck Friday every week and the Fresh Farm Market every Saturday morning. They have also recently introduced a Summer Fitness Series (either yoga by Ember or bootcamp by Plae Hard) on the lawn every Saturday as well. You can Like @dtwoodstock on Facebook to follow all of their events but for now, you get the idea.

The new Northside Hospital – Cherokee Amphitheater hosts the Taste & Sound of Woodstock bringing bands from all around, as well as local vendors and restaurants. Plus, this amphitheater has also made a home for Woodstock’s Movies in the Park. Bring your blankets and snuggle up with the family over one of the latest movies.

If the above options don’t tickle you music lover’s fancy, MadLife Stage & Studios always has live music as well – whether it is on the patio or a bigger band (or even the occasional comedian) hosted on the main stage inside. Did you know this place also acts as a recording studio and restaurant simultaneously? It’s a pretty neat concept. Which brings me to one of my other favorite business concepts downtown…

Have you heard of Truck & Tap? They have a different food truck out back every day and keep the inside as home of the beer tasting (don’t worry, fellow wine lovers – they have you covered as well). Let’s just say neither the truck nor the tap has ever disappointed. AngelFire BBQ is one of our family favorites, but again, we have never been disappointed.

Salt, Pure and J. Christophers have all found a home in this downtown area, as they do in most popular downtown spots, but you can also find a ton of boutique restaurants as well. The best part is, almost everywhere has an outdoor seating option, which I LOVE! Check out a full list of places to Eat & Drink here. I am also super excited about a second rooftop coming to the area. Rootstock and Vine is bound to become a new local favorite and is expected to open at the end of August! I can’t wait to see them establish a piece of history in this town using their custom stave wall.

(Worth noting while we’re talking food: Freight‘s breakfast buffet and mimosa + bloody mary bar every weekend wins)

Who can forget about the coffee goer or that one family member whose sweet tooth always persists? Get some work done or meet some friends over coffee at Copper Coin and grab a cupcake or ice cream from Cupcakelicious, a pie at Pie Bar or a little froyo from Yoguri! *Bribing the kids will not be judged around these parts.

Enough about the food – I’m getting hungry and it’s after 6pm (whomp whomp). Woodstock is also home to many boutique shops and antique stores. Looking for an old record? There’s a shop for that too (two actually). Honestly, the full list is impressive and instead of rattling on, check it out here.

Right around the corner from Downtown Woodstock you will find Reformation Brewery. Enjoy the brew tour, life-size Jenga on the patio and take the local trolley to and from downtown so you don’t have to worry about driving there. Reformation also sponsors a lot of great activities around Woodstock. Follow them on Facebook to get the full scoop.

Have a dog? Take them to Woofstock Dog Park (haha, get it?), which connects to the Greenprints walking trails that wrap all around Woodstock. If you enjoy hiking trails, check out all of the routes around town through Greenprints Alliance. You can also go walking/strolling, exploring, fishing, biking, kayaking or even paddle boarding out at Olde Rope Mill Park.

(Tip: for all of you avid bikers, you can also hop across the road into the Canton zip code and visit Blankets Creek).

Have you been to The Outlet Shoppes of Atlanta yet? Check out all the shops they have at the outlets here and grab lunch or dinner at Marlows Tavern after a day of shopping.

I feel like this is also worth noting since Holly Springs is right down the road from Woodstock and because I am super pumped to have this in my backyard – Holly Springs Town Center is officially underway!! This means there will be a new Eat Play Live community in town. What you can expect: lofts, townhomes, and “cottage-style” homes laid out across the heart of the city near new restaurants, boutiques and retail stores. The grading for this 22 acre mixed use development has begun and they are anticipating an opening by the end of 2019!

The only thing we’re missing is a Whole Foods! Any investors out there want to partner with me on this one? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

I will leave you with this. I am currently working with a young professional business man who is trading his Buckhead condo living for a house in the burbs and as we were touring his future home, he said “out of all of the downtown areas OTP, Woodstock is [his] favorite”. To each is own, I know, but all I’m saying is…

If you don’t know, now you know. ((mic drop))
